| | | | The time of Charles VI of France was poor, due to war, and only a few folk knew rich food and jollity. Some were at the court of the King (of course) and others, allegedly were in the Order of St Babouyn - carousing, drunken monks. This is the first verse of Loyset Compère`s satirical song on these monks.

| | | | This is my most experimental choral piece to date - and it is not for the faint-hearted either by the words or by the musical atmosphere they evoke! Rimbaud`s poem claims to find correspondances between the French vowels, colours and siutations, but I suspect his tongue is in his cheek. Still it`s a fascinating concept and my setting aims to reach into his words.

| | | | Madrigal By Josquin des Prez, which appears to be about a cricket, but actually it is a satirical song. One theory is that it`s about a cardinal, nicknamed the Cricket, whose sermons lasted as long as the cricket`s song and whose activities may have been unbecoming of a man of the cloth.
Another theory is that Josquin wrote it as a reminder to his patron that musicians` pay was overdue - they cannot sing just for love
